News

I'm sorry to anyone whose group I left or haven't joined, but I've been so flooded with deviations I can't even see the works of the artists I watch, until I delete page after page of deviations! So, I've limited my groups to a select few now (who don't spam me.) Also, I am now a co-founder of *lenron's #HighSpeedPhoto. Check it out!

My current CSS and the ones in my gallery are fully coded by me, along with =Verlidaine's current journalskin. If you would like to request a CSS, please do so! It's for free, and I'd love more practice.

Sorry about the inactivity, but I've been a bit away from photography lately. However, I've converted my garage into a bit of a makeshift studio, so expect so see some model shots coming up.

Conceptual Contest

Thanks so much to everyone that participated (entered, offered to feature the winners) in my last contest! And it's that time again: that's right, I'm starting another photography contest! And this will be #3

And the theme is...
Conceptual!

For those of you who don't know what this is or need a refresher...
"Conceptual photography is a photography genre in which the artists makes a photograph of a concept or idea. Usually the conception of the idea precedes the realization of the photography."

Vague still, I know. Maybe examples will help.

A wonderfully unique take on butterfly photography; one wouldn't usually think of doing a silhouette. The wings look so delicate, the focus is spot-on, and the murky background really draws you in.

Recent Watcher Feature + Contest Reminder!

Macro Photography Contest!

Before you ask: No, I will not give you a step-by-step guide on how to take my ideas.

A Bit of News...

I've finally taken my little "rescued lab snails" out of hibernation, and will let them model again, so be prepared for more snail pictures! (They don't mind it-- all they have to do is crawl/slither towards the piece of lettuce I set out for them) This "awakening" was an interesting one too, as I had to individually help about 10/30 snails get out of their shells because they were having trouble getting eating through their shell-seals. They practically had to hatch!

But sadly, during this last bit of hibernation, I lost two of my little darlings, and am quite broken up about it.

Snails usually can hibernate for 3-4 months with no problem, and this period was only for 1-2 months, but it seems two of them somehow just didn't make it... Rest in peace, little buddies.

News!

Sorry for all the spam lately, but I seem to be on a painfully strong DA kick.

Anyways, I've been critiquing a lot lately, and was just wondering if anyone would like me to give constructive criticism/critique on their photography If so, just post the link(s) here, and I'd be happy to! (And I'm honest, but not too brutal.)

Also, I'm still deciding on whether or not to write the article on how I create my little makeshift studio. I've had a few people in favor, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to share my secrets...

And I'm considering starting another contest (with subscriptions as prizes, of course). Any thoughts? (Don't forget- #Animal-Love-Club is hosting a bird/egg contest with subscriptions as prizes! I suggest you check it out.)

News!

(My journal was a month old, so I felt like I should update it.)

First off, my club, the #Animal-Love-Club, is hosting a Bird and Egg related art contest and giving out 3 month and 1 month subscriptions as prizes- I suggest you check it out!

Secondly, I've been insanely busy lately which is why I didn't do much this week- though I doubt anyone particulary cares But I'm planning to try more conceptual photography! Also, I'm considering on writing a little news article on how I set up my "studio" in my bathroom... would anyone be interested, or should I not bother?

And thanks so much for the watches and faves everyone- I would love to thank you individually, but I haven't had much time lately I'm really sorry, and thanks so much for the support!

Sorry about the old journal updates, the CSS glitched and I had to re-code them all myself. I checked the "Edit is minor" option, but it appears to have shown up in your messages anyway. So sorry about that!

Still could use more judges/people to feature the winners!

Photography Contest! Please read if you plan on entering:

You must have no more than 10,000 pageviews and 100 watchers- the purpose of this contest is to help expose unknown photographers.
Theme: Nature. This means animals, plants, landscapes, waterscapes, drop-art, anything natural. (I'll be doing other themes in the future though!)
No gore or nudity (it shouldn't need a mature filter).
First prize: 3 month sub + journal features. Second prize: 1 month sub + journal features. Third prize: Journal features.
Deadline: September 6th, and you may change your entry until September 1st.
One entry per person, entries must have been taken after July 6th (within the last month).
To enter, send me a note titled "Contest" or "Entry" with a THUMB to your piece.

Drip-Drop...

On Tuesday, I bought myself an amazing off-camera flash (Promaster 7500EDF in case anyone's interested), so I've been messing around with water-drop art and have realized I love it

Hope you don't mind seeing lots of water from me, because I have a horrible problem with not being able to choose which drop-formations turn out best; I end up with so many interesting ones...

The horse (Equus ferus caballus)[2][3] is one of two extant subspecies of Equus ferus, or the wild horse. It is a single-hooved (ungulate) mammal belonging to the taxonomic family Equidae. The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi-toed creature into the large, single-toed animal of today. Humans began to domesticate horses around 4000 BC, and their domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BC. Horses in the subspecies caballus are domesticated, although some domesticated populations live in the wild as feral horses. These feral populations are not true wild horses, as this term is used to describe horses that have never been domesticated, such as the endangered Przewalski's Horse, a separate subspecies, and the only remaining true wild horse. There is an extensive, specialized vocabulary used to describe equine-related concepts, covering everything from anatomy to life stages, size, colors, markings, breeds, locomotion, and behavior.

Horses' anatomy enables them to make use of speed to escape predators and they have a well-developed sense of balance and a strong fight-or-flight instinct. Related to this need to flee from predators in the wild is an unusual trait: horses are able to sleep both standing up and lying down. Female horses, called mares, carry their young for approximately 11 months, and a young horse, called a foal, can stand and run shortly following birth. Most domesticated horses begin training under saddle or in harness between the ages of two and four. They reach full adult development by age five, and have an average lifespan of between 25 and 30 years.

Green Ivy CSS Work in Progress

Several Ivy species have become a serious invasive species (invasive exotic) in natural native plant habitats, (especially riparian and woodland) types, and also a horticultural weed in gardens of the Western and Southern regions of the United States and Canada with milder winters. Ivy (Hedera spp.), being an introduced plant in North America, is without the natural pests and diseases that control its vigor in its native continents. Ivy creates a dense, vigorously smothering, shade-tolerant evergreen ground-cover here, positive characteristics in its horticultural use, that can spread through assertive underground rhizomes and above-ground runners quickly over large natural plant community areas and outcompete the native vegetation. Their ornamental horticulture use in California and other states is now discouraged or banned in certain jurisdictions and habitat adjacencies.[3] Similar problems exist in Australia. For example, in both countries the North African drought-tolerant 'Algerian or California Ivy' (H. canariensis or H. algeriensis) and European 'English Ivy' (H. helix) were originally cultivated in garden, park, and highway landscaping, but have become aggressively invasive in coastal forests and riparian ecosystems now neccesitating costly eradication programs.[4]

Much discussion has involved whether or not Ivy climbing garden trees will harm them. In Europe the opinion is that the harm is 'insignificant' although there can be competition for soil nutrients and water, and trees supporting heavy Ivy growth can be liable to windthrow damage. However harm and problems are significant in North America, where a tree's photosynthesis or structural strength can be overwhelmed by aggressive ivy growth leading to death directly or by opportunistic disease and insect attacks caused by weakness from the duress.
